In 1904, the family later moved to Hill City, Minnesota. Walker attended the St. Cloud Normal School (now St. Cloud State University) to become a teacher, graduating in 1916. She intended to further her education elsewhere but chose to remain in Hill City. During her time as a teacher in Hill City, Walker taught second, fifth, and sixth grade students. She also met her future husband - a colleague of hers, whom she married in 1919 and raised two children with named Charles and Carol. Walker passed away on September 27, 1983, at the age of 88.
